Black and White Mother’s Day Card

Black and White Mothers Day card

Black and White Mother's Day card

I hope you everyone had a happy Mother’s day.  I sure did.  My husband took me out for both supper and lunch.  The kids helped to pick out my Mother’s day presents.  I helped my own mom with some computer problems as ever good child should do.

I created this card for my mother.  I hope she enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it.

This card is so clean and simple.  I think that is why I like it so well.  I also like the Mother’s Day poem I found for the front to the card.

The lattice and letters were cut using sure cuts a lot.

Golf Ball and Tee SVG for Sure Cuts a Lot

Golf Birthday CardCard number 2 of my 5 card goal today.  My nephew is turning 9.  He loves to golf so what better than a  golf inspired birthday card.  Today I used a dingbat font.  I pulled the font out and modified it ink inkscape to create a svg file you can cut on Sure Cuts A Lot.  I left all the elements on one page so that you can color block your cricut mat and cut this in one run.

If you have inkscape you can definitely alter the file and cut it in way, shape or form you desire.

Graduation Card: Sure Cuts A Lot Die Cut

Sure Cuts A Lot Graduation Card

Sure Cuts A Lot Graduation Card

I have a LOT of cards to make today.  My goal is to get 2 Mother’s Day cards, 1 Graduation Card, 1 Birthday card, 1 Sympathy card and possibly one more graduation card all done today.  I know people can whip these out in no time but I have to think about it.  Review other sites for ideas and then still ponder over them.  My husband says I am nutz but we are all a little nutz when it comes to the things that we really like to do.

Her is the first of the days goals.  This is a high school graduation card for my nephew.  Every time one of my nieces or nephews graduates it gives me a bit of a queasy feeling in my stomach.  I am happy for them but can see my own children’s graduations quickly approaching and I am no where near ready for those days to come.

I used patterned paper, created the die cut with sure cuts a lot and the cricut. The tassel is embellished with stickles. The background has been inked with close to my heart ink and dabber.

I made this over sized card for my son’s friend.  He likes truck.  I created a pocket out of the box with brads so it could hold the cash gift.  I used doodle type stamps from close to my heart for the title.  You can download the Sure Cuts A Lot SVG.  It comes in a zip file.

You will notice that I color coded the individuals SVG files.  You will also notice that each file has a star on it when you open it in Sure Cuts A Lot.  I use the star to maintain the size of all the images.  You open one file, before you close the other.  Then resize the file until the stars match up.  This way you maintain the proportion of all the files.

Scrapbook Store Here I Come

Our nearest dedicated scrapbooking store is about 35 down the road.  It is not in a town that we frequent very often.  Tomorrow son number 2 is out of pre school, the dog can be dropped off at the vet for a check up so me and the boy will be on our way to the scrapbooking store.  This is a special trip because I will be picking out items that will soon appear on this blog in the Scrapbook Giveaway.  Be sure to join the mailing list to get an announcement for the start of the blog giveaway.  I will be giving away over $100 in scrapbooking products in honor of my upcoming 100th post.  This blogs traffic has increased so rapidly that is is overwhelming.  I started this little blog as a hobby but it is quickly turning into much more than that.  I have had a great time making SVG files for Sure Cuts A Lot and sharing them with the viewers.  I have also enjoyed meeting several other scrapbooking bloggers and all the visitors to the blog who have emailed and commented on the site.

Tune in over the next couple of days I will be showing a few of the items that will be in the Scrapbook Giveaway.

Wag O Meter Layout

I was not a little dog lover until I found this little guy at the humane society.  This is my son’s dog but for some reason like all dogs who belong to sons moms seem to end up spending a lot of time caring for them as well.  This little guy is the funniest little thing and has given me a new perspective on little dogs.

Yesterday my youngest boy needed a show in tell for school.  We took this picture of “Willie” and scraped it up for show and tell.  He is in preschool so we made a corresponding sheet for the letter A.  A stands for Adoption.  Adoption is when you become someones family because they don’t have one.  Simple terms which gives me a whole new idea for the pictures I took at show and tell. Hmm that will be another blog post.

Below you will see willie mays.  I used Doodle Alphabet stams from close to my heart and sure cuts a lot for the wag o meter title.

How to Open a .Scut File

We have all been challenged by the every changing world of technology.  Scrapbooking is no different.  No longer is it a matter of slapping some tape on the back of a picture, putting it on a page and journaling.  Now you can get as elaborate as you want.  The Cricut machine and the Sure Cuts a Lot software is a testament to that.

I have been watching my blog stats and I see a few people looking for information on how to open a .scut file.

First off if you are downloading .scut files just place your pointer over the file you want to download and right click.  You will probably see a menu of options come up. Choose “save link as” or “save as.” Place the file on your desktop or in a folder where you can find it later.

To open your file you will need a working copy of Sure Cuts A Lot.

Open your sure Cuts A Lot program.

At the top click on File and then open project.  In your open project window select your .scut file.  You are now in business make changes to your .scut file and eventually cut it on your Cricut machine.

What Is Sure Cuts A Lot

Sure Cuts A Lot Software

Sure Cuts A Lot Software

Sure Cuts A Lot is an extremely easy program that allows you to cut your True Type fonts and various shapes on a Cricut machine. It works by scanning an image or using an image you have on your computer.  Once you have determined the image you want to use you need to use another free software program like Inkscape to convert that image to .SVG.  Inkscape is currently a free program you can download from the internet.

Sure Cuts A Lot works with Cricut Personal and Cricut Expression machine as well as with the Cricut Create machine.  You will need an usb cable to connect the Cricut to your computer.  The USB cable is probably similar to the one you have for our printer.

Sure Cuts A Lot software will weld letters together.  Welding letters or shapes together creates on continuous die cut instead of individual letters or shapes.  You can weld several shapes and letters to create any number of designs.

The software is becoming more popular therefore the availability of .SVG files is becoming more prevalent on the internet.  Some online stores are offering pre-designed groups of .SVG files for just $1 and $2 per piece.  Esty is an online collection of multiple artist’s designs and files.  It is one location to find pre made .SVG files.  If you have more time to hunt for .SVG files there are some very creative free .SVG files available for download on many scrapbooker’s blogs.

Sure cuts a lot is available for download on the internet or you can request to have it delivered to your home on CD.  We have a Sure Cuts a Lot Coupon available.
