Back from Easter Break with Some New Ducks

Hello Ladies and Gents

Whew what a week and a weekend. We did a little different this year.  The week before Easter we had a combo Easter, Confirmation and Birthday party.  Let me tell you 30 lbs of pulled pork with all the fixings will definitely feed 35 people once and possible 1 to 2 more times.  As I was stilling pulling pork apart at 10PM the night before the party I wish I would have known 15lbs would have done the job.  No biggie I had plenty to send home and still enough to put in the freezer for a quick meeal down the line.

I had a great Easter break since I did all the cooking the week before. I didn’t mess with the computer or the Internet too much this break so I had some serious catch up to do today.  I wanted to share this cute card I did.  I was in a time crunch so instead of cutting it I did a quick print for this one but you can certainly cut all the pieces with the MTC, SCAL, PDF, DXF or SVG files in the kit.

New Desk Part 1

I had this big idea for building a craft desk out of some panelled doors from my old house. I shared the idea with my friend Kim, who is much more capable of building things than I am, and she started to blow my mind with constructing legs and adding this and that. Then I called the glass shop to find out how much it would cost for a glass top. The price was around $80 bucks which wasn’t awful but I couldn’t justify $80 for something I was going to glue and paint on. So the idea fell flat until a picture came up on Pinterest for a door/desk that used cheap bookcases as legs.  So I started to scour the net and local  discount stores for bookcases that were cheap and were the right dimensions.  Some were too tall, some were too narrow.  The shipping costs on some were more than the bookcase.  Our local Wally World (a.k.a. Walmart) had these on the web site.  Unfortunately they were only available in store and didn’t come into stock very often.  So I stocked Walmart for a month or two and picked up these two cases.  $15 a piece,  30 inches wide. and not too tall but tall enough.  $15 is less than what it costs for a set of legs at the home improvement store plus I have some added hidden storage.  I painted the door, took out the door knob and installed a retracting keyboard shelf.  The left over door knob hole makes a great way to fish the cords down to the outlet.

I have one more to do to create an “U” shaped desk.  I was fortunate to already have a cubed book shelf that I removed the wheels from and turned on it’s side for added counter space.  The cubed shelf is nearly the same height as the desk, what luck.  I can’t wait to finish the other side.  That will be my primary work space.  I always find myself standing up to do my projects so the added height is going to be awesome and save my back.  I need one last piece to finish up the space.  I need a chair that will rise just a bit higher to make typing a little easier.

Used a Kensington keyboard extension.
