Xyron 150
One of my favorite scrapbook adhesive tools is the xyron 150. I have one of the old versions. I have probably had it for at least 5 years. You can use your X for ribbons, die cuts just about any item that is 1.5 inch wide and will fit between the slot. My xyron 150 is the orange version. You may hear people refer to it as X.
This little tool is simple to use. You place your die cuts that are less than 1.5 inches wide in the top of the X and pull the adhesive tape at the bottom. You die cut will be sandwiched between a wax paper and a clear top coat. Rub the die cut a few time and pull off the top layer. Rubbing the die cut prevents extra adhesive from oozing around the edges. Remove your die cut and you have a die cut that is covered and ready to stick.
Replacement cartridges for the Xyron 150 can be found at most scrapbooking stores and discount stores like Walmart. This is a keep item that should be kept in your scrapbooking supplies at all times.
Extend the Life of Your Circut Mats
I love my cricut but I hate to buy mats for it. I have found a few easy and simple ways to extend the life of the mats.
Rotate: Rotate your mat every time you cut. Reposition your cutting. This way you are not constantly using one portion of the mat while leaving perfectly good sticky on the rest of the mat. You can either flip it the opposite direction or use the arrows on the machine to start cutting in a completely different area of the mat. If you are a sure cuts a lot user or a cricut design software user this is pretty easy because you can visual position your cuts anywhere on the mat.
Get two mats and rotate between the two is also a very helpful tip.
Cover: Keep your mat covered. If you don’t all the particles floating in the air can land on your mat and and prevent it from being sticky. Use the clear plastic or store your mats face to face to prevent dust and debris from landing on your mat.
Clean: Clean off extra paper from your mat every time you use it. When you are done with the your cricut mat for the day wipe them down with a damp cloth or use baby wipes. Baby wipes are just part of my scrapbook supplies. They keep your hands clean, surfices clean, they wipe up craft mats after using ink techniques. Wipe your mats with baby wipes. They will feel less tacky but as they dry the sticky will return. Another handy tool is a lint roller. It can be helpful to pick up dust off your cricut mat as well as getting those tiny little pieces of paper off.
Resticky: You can make the mats sticky again if they don’t have too many groves in them by using Wacky Tac. A word of precaution if you have a warranty on your machine and you are worried about voiding the warranty don’t use this. I no longer have a warranty and don’t have any trouble. Be sure to keep the wacky tac in the cutting margins of the mat to prevent getting the wacky tac on the rollers or anywhere else in the cricut machine. This is a best judgement application.
I have also been known to use a little tape just on the corners of the cricut mat to hold the paper down. It helps when you need just a little extra stick on the borders of the mat.
I have had the same 3 mats for nearly a year now using these techniques. These techniques stretch the scrapbooking dollar.
Stars Background .SCUT for Sure Cuts A Lot
I love Americana decorations. I put together this stars background that you can use for cards or expand it for a 12X12 layout. I was in a scrapbook shop recently and saw some papers that were stars connected in a 12X12 sheet of paper.
I snapped off a pictures of a smaller one I cut in red.

Scrapbook Kits Raise Money for Great Causes
I have recently had the opportunity to raise money for MDA. Next month I am going to a crop to raise money for cancer research. Along the way I came across this great site that has really neat scrapbooking kits. This month they are featuring a kit with lots of new stuff that came from the latest CHA. The featured kit this month comes with selections from Bella Blvd, Crate Paper, My Little Shoebox, Jillibean Soup and American Crafts.
This site also has a membership program that offers automatic delivery of the kits of the month and discounts. I noticed they also offer challenges so if you like to put your designs up for competition this is another site that can help you with that.
I digress. The point of the site is not only do they have great scrapbooking kits they give 5% of the proceeds to a particular charity. The charity this quarter is the American Heart Association.

The Mom Song a Hilarious Tribute to Moms Everywhere
Maybe everyone on the net has seen and heard this but I couldn’t resist. I was sent this by a friend via email today and thought it was a complete tribute to my life and just about every mother out there. I am sure no mom in history has every had enough time to get everything they need to get done, but it just seems like it take more time than ever to get everyone where they need to be when they need to be there.
This year we are taken the summer off from softball which almost seems sacrilegious but what is summer except a time for rest. So what if we are not at the diamond Monday through Sunday every night of the week. This year we are going camping and playing non organized golf together. We are going to go where we want when we want to go there. There will be plenty of years ahead of sporting activities, boy scouts, 4-H but there will not always be a time when we can get together and enjoy each other with out going in 1000 different directions. Kids grow up way too fast, this summer we are going to take the journey in the slow lane.
Enjoy this Gal’s tribute to Moms. Be careful you may laugh your pants off.
Scrapbookers Raising Money: Crop for a Cure
I just got my notice for Crop for A Cure taking place in Boelus, Nebraska on April 25, 2009. If you are in interested in participating in Crop for A Cure leave a comment on this blog. If you are doing Crop for a Cure in your neighborhood we would love to hear about it.
Crop for A Cure for this particular projects benefits Hall County Relay for Life. There is a $25 donation which covers your crop space, food, and door prizes. I think it is a great service and who wouldn’t want to spend the day cropping as well as raising money for a great cause.
I am working on a larger scrap for another event charitable event. I think scrapbookers around the world are sharing their hobby for many great causes and I enjoy hearing about all of them.
Cupcake SVG Sure Cuts A Lot File
This weekend I took the kids and traveled to my friends house. I gave the Cricut machine a work out. My friend also purchased a Cricut so I enjoyed teaching her how to make it work.
I created lots of svg files that you can cut with your sure cuts a lot software.
This is one of the first. It is a cupcake with a base, a frosting layer, and a cherry on top.
Enjoy. If you cut this one please leave a comment or send me a picture of your design I would love to post it to the site.
To download right click and select save as. This is a .SCUT file. It can only be used with Sure Cuts a Lot. It is not a SVG file.

Is Cropping Just About the Page
For me cropping is not just about the page I create. It is a reason to meet up with a dear friend who I have known close to 3 decades. She lives a few hours away and we do our level best to get together a few times a year either at a group crop or meet at her home to scrap our memories and hash the old ones. This happens to be the weekend. I have been looking forward to finding a date for quite a while and this weekend is it. We took care of being sick last week. Snow hit the week before so it looks like clear sailing. Knock wood that we will be west bound and down this weekend.,
My dear friend got me into scrapbooking about 10 years ago and as much as we love doing the work we love sharing the hobby. I pile my 3 kids in the suburban along with more than enough scrapbooking supplies to last 10 people a month and head off for a weekend. Her gracious husband helps unloads the stuff down the stairs into her dedicated scrapbooking area. We use her house because she has such a large area to work. Lord knows we need room to spread everything out. We proceed to get to the work of cropping and scrapbooking.
Her kids and my kids soon find something to do whether it is tending to their zoo full of animals or creating boys against the girls alliances. During the weekend we usually escape the house and leave her husband at the mercy of our combined brood of children to head down to the local scrapbooking store. After going there a few times a year for the last 7 years they greet by name. At some point in our weekend we also find time to stuff our faces, sort out the world issues and debrief on the goings on of kids, families and work. Even though we scrapbook to nearly dawn for two days I always leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on life again.
Part of scrapbooking is purely social. It creates new friends and solidifies old friendships. If you have been doing this long enough you know what I mean. If you haven’t had time to crop in a while or connect with that dear old friend make a phone call, get your stuff together and refresh your soul with a good crop this weekend.
