How to Open a .Scut File

We have all been challenged by the every changing world of technology.  Scrapbooking is no different.  No longer is it a matter of slapping some tape on the back of a picture, putting it on a page and journaling.  Now you can get as elaborate as you want.  The Cricut machine and the Sure Cuts a Lot software is a testament to that.

I have been watching my blog stats and I see a few people looking for information on how to open a .scut file.

First off if you are downloading .scut files just place your pointer over the file you want to download and right click.  You will probably see a menu of options come up. Choose “save link as” or “save as.” Place the file on your desktop or in a folder where you can find it later.

To open your file you will need a working copy of Sure Cuts A Lot.

Open your sure Cuts A Lot program.

At the top click on File and then open project.  In your open project window select your .scut file.  You are now in business make changes to your .scut file and eventually cut it on your Cricut machine.

Thank you so much for the info. I am new to all of this and am learning slowly. What if I only want to cut a portion of the file? for instance on the cake. I would like to cut different pieces out of different paper. But when I download the file and pull it up, it all comes up. I would think I would be able to use the “cut” command on the toolbar but it is not allowing me to do this.

I would so appreciate your help and thanks for the great designs!

On that one it is all one piece. I didn’t separate the pieces and created it in one .cut file. For the other designs. They are in SVG. With a download of inkscape you can easily change the svg files.

Thanks for the info. I have downloaded inkscape, but haven’t played it with it enough to really know what I am doing. Could I bother you so much to give me a quick overview or line by line directions to only print one part of the download. Thanks again for you patience with me.
